Smartech are delighted and proud to announce that they have been chosen as winners of the AGWA (Australian Glass and Window Association) 2022 VIC State Award for “Best Use of Windows and Doors, Glass and Glazing – Commercial Project $100,000 – $750,000”.

The Australian Glass and Window Association (AGWA) is the peak body for the Australian glass and window industry and provides accreditation services to over 1,200 companies to ensure customers receive the best quality products and services from accredited AGWA members.

Smartech won this award for the Commercial Tilt Window project at 130 Lonsdale Street Melbourne (please see image below). Smartech were selected to contribute to this project by designing and installing over-sized, innovative, and highly energy-efficient tilt windows on level 1 of this office building.  The windows fully open the space and broaden the views of adjoining city buildings, while being easy to operate thanks to their counterweight balanced design and motorised operation. The tilt windows were powder-coated in dark bronze to blend in with the building’s overall colour scheme. The frames were welded to ensure the over-sized windows would stand the test of time and were designed for deflection when opened and to withstand high wind loads.

The “Best Use of Windows and Doors, Glass and Glazing Awards” recognise fenestration, glass and glazing products that complement and enhance the design of a building. The windows and doors or glass and glazing are presented to showcase and highlight the way in which the products can contribute to and improve the attractiveness of a building.

Smartech were audited by Michael Spence from AGWA around a year ago, when he stated: “I recently audited Smartech and I was very impressed with their level of engineering expertise and the fantastic products they are designing.

I was also impressed with the level of testing they have completed on their bespoke modular horizontal hinge window system. Smartech systems were tested locally to AS 2047 as well as AS 4284 and more than met the performance standards.

This is a unique system that shows the capability and ingenuity of some of our local manufacturers.”
