The Astor Hotel Motel in Albury has undergone a multi-million dollar refurbishment in 2020, led by renowned architects, Techne. The project transformed the 1960s buildings into a Palm Springs-style oasis complete with neon sign reminiscent of those seen in Las Vegas.
The bar, restaurant, beer garden, function spaces, gaming area as well as the inside and outside of the 45-room motel have been restored to their mid-century roots.
“We build flexibility in our designs and cater to a broad demographic of patrons, from locals to visitors and everyone in between,” said Techne director Nick Travers.
Since the work was completed by early 2021 the Astor Hotel Motel has become a landmark destination in the region, thanks to its impeccable fit-out, striking retro motel facade, and gourmet pub-style food.
Smartech are proud to have been a part of this incredible transformation project by contributing the design, manufacture, and installation of a Glazed Folding Door, which was installed as a centrepiece of the beer garden street frontage.
Not only does the white colour of the door frame perfectly blend in with the remainder of the light and breezy Palm Springs-style colour scheme of the beer garden, but its counterweight balanced folding mechanism also allows to easily open or close a large area of the glazed façade.
This makes the Glazed Folding Door perfect for allowing air to flow in when desired, like on balmy summer evenings. The versatile folding door design gives the bar the flexibility it needs in order to optimise the ambiance and enable the enjoyment of the beer garden all year long.
