Gage Roads Brewery

Smartech is proud to have been nominated to design, manufacture and supply four Smartech Uplift Windows for the exciting new Gage Roads Brewery in Fremantle, Western Australia. The landmark project encompasses a $10 m reinvigoration of the heritage-listed A Shed at Victoria Quay.

Formerly a port goods warehouse, the A Shed has been completely transformed into a bustling brewery hub by Gage Roads Brew Co. The waterfront venue includes a working micro-brewery, restaurant, bar, and al-fresco area, along with a nautical-themed children’s play zone.

Along with its rich historical past, the iconic A Shed’s age presented some design constraints that required Smartech’s expert engineering team to overcome. Just shy of its 100^th birthday, the heritage-listed shed’s construction was completed in 1926. The warehouse spans over 100 m long and is more than 3000 square metres in total area, however, its antiquated construction resulted in the entire building being out of square.

Capitalising on its stunning seafront location, the Gage Roads Brewery engaged Smartech to engineer a window solution that would celebrate the abundant marine environment. Four Uplift Windows were constructed to rise vertically behind the lintel, framing the view of surrounding moored vessels and opening to welcome the refreshing sea breeze.

Working with the parameters of the site, we set to work in collaboration with the project builders and architects to engineer a design solution to fit the existing structure. Smartech were pleased to rise to the challenge – our skilled team ensured a perfect fit for all four Uplift Windows, delivering a clean outcome.

Finished to match the light interior palette, our Uplift Windows effortlessly complement the brewery’s industrial, maritime atmosphere. An ideal backdrop for behind the bar, Smartech are thrilled with the outcome of this project, particularly given its structural hurdles.

The operation of the Uplift Windows is almost effortless thanks to the Smartech counterweight design, which also ensures product longevity. The Uplift Window’s vast glass panels are specially designed for high-ceiling applications and are available as either single or double glazed.
